As you know, a good resume should provide valuable insights about the job applicant which can help the hirer to determine whether she/he should be considered for the given open position. Likewise, when the employer looks at your resume, she/he should be given those ‘valuable insights’ right away, neatly and clearly. When I say clearly, it does not mean big fonts with double spacing, what I mean is “understandably”.
When your future Boss scans through your resume, generally she/he notes down all the striking points which causes her/him to think, “You are really a good fit for the job” but also, sometimes, if the person does not sees that spark in your profile, do not get the impression that your chance is gone, your information might be kept for further analysis. So what is that the Manager looks for, here is a small list of observations.
1. Objective: One of the first points that any good employer would be interested in, is what the Objective of the candidate and how specific it is to the rest of the resume. Whether it reflects that you have certain a goal in mind which this job would provide. If your objectives are not clearly mentioned, it would give an indication that you are not sure of what and why you want this job, and it will also send signal that you just applied to take a shot at it.
2. Over all Organization: When you have a nicely organized write up and it is easy to read, it helps a lot in making out that you are eager to good communication and you value what you write. Avoid spelling or grammatical errors, as you know a resume are the first communication to the employer, if it does not make any sense from reading, you have almost lost your chance.
3. Listing some of your Accomplishments. Would not you like to highlight the fact that you were a key contributor to one of the critical projects in your past, or solved some serious problems that helped completing the project in time? If you have any such small big achievements, do highlight them with some specific reasons. This would project that you have the problem solving ability.
4. Showing a consistent growth throughout your career. When you have started your career, you must have set some goals (if you have not, please do) and since then until today, you must have performed well enough to move forward. Most people who stay in the same field over time will typically make lateral or upward moves. This demonstrates an interest in future development. This would catch the eye of the interviewer that you have an interest in your career growth which also would help the organization in some or other way.
5. Demonstrating appropriate professionalism. Have you ever confronted with a sales person who tries to sell you something without your interest but even then catches your attention? You know why this happens, because that person has demonstrated just appropriate professionalism, neither more nor less. Just think how often this happens, very rare, you might have seen many advertisers use loud volume and flashy attire to catch your attention, but it never worked out. Most of the time you feel like “This sounds very superficial.” Same points applies to your profile, do not make it sound extra impressive or very attractive. Make it just appropriate in its way. Do not make it too long (more than 2-3 pages). Try to bring out just the important information.
6. Worked successfully in a Team. Teamwork is always important and always a headache too. But people who have successfully worked in a team for sometime in their career are always in a great demand. They know how to work well with others and understand the importance of co-workers. Mention this point in your profile. Specially if you had managed and made a less productive team to a successful one. This would surely ring a bell in the interviewer’s mind.
7. Shown Interest in taking responsibility. Every role, up in the ladder comes with a larger basket of duties and responsibilities. If you have demonstrated accomplishing these responsibilities smoothly and successfully, do not forget to highlight it. When you show interest in taking responsibility, this also shows that you are a result oriented person who can stay focused on their goals.
In addition to the above points, make sure that you do not leave any grammatical and formatting error. And also do not use any type colour to the resume. Read it a couple of times before submitting it. This gives a lot of insight on how the interviewer would feel after going through your profile.

Hi. Can anyone tell me how to extract time from timestamp?
For Example
timestamp=’2008-03-28 14:11:04′
i want time ’14:11:04′ from timestamp through query.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Vaideesh,
If you need only time, you can probably try the following;
SELECT time;
To answer your question you should do something like this.
SELECT CAST(VaideeshTime as time(0)) from timestamp;
VaideeshTime
——–
14:11:04
Hope that helps.
