Using Extract function with any date field is easy. Let’s try this out with system date and system time commands. To see the current date we use

SELECT DATE;

This would give output as “11/06/2007″. Suppose you want to EXTRACT the month from the date then use this query

SELECT EXTRACT (MONTH FROM date);

This would give “11″ as the output. Similarly for YEAR and DAY use the following commands

SELECT EXTRACT (YEAR FROM date);
SELECT EXTRACT (DAY FROM date);

But for HOUR MINUTE and SECONDS extractions, we can not use date command, we have to use time instead. To see time use the following command;

SELECT TIME;

This would return “15:59:19″ as the output and to extract HOUR MINUTE and SECONDS from this, use the following commands

SELECT EXTRACT (MINUTE FROM time);
SELECT EXTRACT (HOUR FROM time) ;
SELECT EXTRACT (SECOND FROM time) ;

If you use anything else than the expected inputs for the EXTRACT function you would end up getting 3707:  Syntax error.

I have been using WordPress since sometime and it is been smooth so far. This is my fist posting about WordPress and guess it would be useful one. Here is the synopsis, today I wanted to post an article on page, which is not the default homepage and also not the static page but it is something like a category page but again not on the category directly. In short, I wanted to change the default posing options of WordPress without making my homepage static. Do you think it is possible, if NO, if you are right, but if yes, still than you are right because it is possible with a round about way and without any coding, can you believe it, without any coding…so let’s see how it is done. Just follow the steps, not blindly, but with your open eyes and see how easy it is.

Step 1.  First go to the following URL to install a plug-in called “Inline Posts”

Step 2. Install and activate this plug-in.

Step 3. Create a new Post and make the “Post Status” as Private.

Step 4. Follow the instruction on the above plug-in to attach a post to a separate/new page. You may either create a page or use any existing page which is not the homepage.

Step 5. Publish the page; again publish the PAGE not the post. Now you can easily see the private post appear in the separate (new) page and at the same time it would not appear in your home page, is not it simple, that is why it is WordPress. Let me know how your experience was.
